Oh Be Careful Little Eyes What You See

When I got in my truck today to drive to the gym, I had the radio on talk-radio. The host of the show was vomiting up lust toward some woman who just finished doing the local news. He was trying to justify his actions by telling his producer that all men do it. He told his producer (a woman) that her husband does the same thing and it is alright since he is faithful outwardly but all men fantasize about other women. His technician (another man) was agreeing with him. I turned the radio to K-Love before I heard the conclusion.

This radio host was saying it is alright to lust after someone of the opposite sex. Our society (for the much part) will agree with this guy. As a Christian, I do not measure my standards by our society because society’s standards change constantly. Instead, I am called to measure myself against the constant standard; the Word of God. I can easily come across as holier than thou if I compare myself with this radio guy, but if I measure myself against the ultimate man; Jesus Christ, I am found waiting or lacking. Only because Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior, I am free from lusting after women. Being human, I can fail from time to time, but if I have a consistent walk with Christ my soul becomes stronger than my flesh so I am more likely to resist this temptation.

Going by the old adage of What Would Jesus Do, I have to go and read what He said about lusting after someone of the opposite sex. Jesus addresses this idea of lusting after someone other than your spouse as committing adultery in Matthew 5:28;

“but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”

That is plain and simple, when you read what God (in the flesh) said about it.

You maybe asking, “Why is it so bad if I fantasize about someone other than my spouse?” Lusting after people in your mind is a seed that will produce sin. In James 1:14-15, we are told to be cautious of playing with sin;

“But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust. Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death.”

This death is talking about Spiritual death (going to hell), but for a Christian this could be the death of trust between spouses if one is allowing his eyes to look at porn on the internet. Don’t be failed guys, the women hate this and it hurts them to the very soul.
Don’t allow yourself to be drew away what is right. Keep your eyes to yourself. Staying pure in mind is pleasing to the Lord and will keep you from sin. Oh Be Careful Little Eyes What You See.
