What Does it Means to be Saved?

My two cousins came to church today to hear me preach. After my sermon, one asked me about being saved. Apparently her grandmother told her that she got saved as a child. She does not remember getting saved. She asked me what it means to be saved. It appears she has head knowledge but has not accepted Christ in her heart. I feel she knows what to do so I just encouraged her to talk with God like she was talking with me. She just needs to confess her sins to God and accept what Christ did on the cross for us. The Holy Spirit used my sermon to touch her heart. He will complete her journey. I will follow up with her later this week.

Where are you in your journey with God? The Holy Spirit illuminates the mind of the pre-Christian*, stirs their heart, and moves their will. God has done all the work in salvation. God the Father, before the foundation of the Earth, created the plan to reconnect with the human race; Jesus Christ paid the predetermined sin debt on the cross; the Holy Spirit draws people to the Father. God chooses His people and saves us.

With that said, below are some bulletin points for the person who is wondering what being saved is all about.

1. God wants you to know that He loves you.

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. “

2. It is important that you know that you are a sinner in the eyes of God.

Romans 3:23 “. . . for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,. . .”

3. It is important that you are aware that you are now dead in sin.

Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

4. Jesus Christ died for you; He took your sin on Himself.

Romans 5:6-8 “For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

5. You can be saved by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Acts 16:30-31 “and after he brought them out, he said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" They said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household."’

6. You can be saved and know it for sure.

1 John 5:10-13 “The one who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself; the one who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning His Son. And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.

7. If you call on Jesus, He will save you.

Romans 10:13 “for "WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED."’

*NOTE: The term pre-Christian is in reference to those God has chosen for the foundation of the Earth to be saved as St. Paul wrote in Ephesians 1:3-6 (Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him In love He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.).
